Music is an important part of numerous peoples’ lives and many of them have dreams of seeing their idols perform live. Throughout the years, various artists have hit the road and gone on tour, reaching out to fans across all cities and countries. Amongst the crowds of thousands of attendees, a few Liberty Eagles have been able to share an unforgettable night with their favorite artists.
One of these students is junior, Angely Gonzalez, who went to see Kali Uchis in Washington, D.C. with her cousin and sister in May as part of the artist’s Red Moon in Venus Tour.
“The concert was so good,” said Gonzalez, “We saw her the day after my birthday, so it was extra special for me. My favorite songs that were played were ‘fue mejor’, ‘Not Too Late (interlude)’, and ‘Dead to Me.’ I was literally screaming my lungs out from singing along and I lost my voice after the concert.”
Gonzalez is a big fan of Kali Uchis and has been following her journey for quite some time.
“Ever since I became a fan of her in 2018, I’ve been wanting to see her in concert. So, finally being able to watch her perform is everything I’ve ever wanted. It was my first concert. Everyone was so nice to me. There were people behind me with a sign that said ‘Kali marry me!’ and she actually noticed them. Basically, it was so much fun, and I can’t wait to see her again,” shared Gonzalez.
Nothing is better than going to a show with friends, and LHS student Michelle Weon did just that. This past July, Michelle saw Fall Out Boy at Jiffy Lube Live with her friend Caden Rynestad as part of the group’s So Much For (Tour) Dust Tour.
“I got really into Fall Out Boy after I heard them on the car radio coming back from a hiking trip. Over the summer I started getting Caden into them too. We found tickets that were super cheap, so we decided to go,” explained Weon.
At the show, Caden recounts a night of spectacular energy with unforgettable music and even more memorable bonding.
“I loved the concert and the openers were amazing. Each of them was different and created a unique sound. My favorite part of the show was hearing the Fall Out Boy perform. I loved dancing to all the music with my bestie Michelle,” said Rynestad.
Along with Rynestad, Weon shared some thoughts on her time spent with her friends.
“The concert was really fun and we had a blast. By chance, we met up with a few other friends at the concert and hung out with them there. This was the second concert that I’ve ever been to, but the first Fall Out Boy concert. It was a great experience and I would totally do it again,” expressed Weon.
As the show goes on, the two friends express their newfound appreciation for the group.
“The atmosphere was so high energy and everybody was enjoying the music in different ways. This was my first time going to their concert, as I had just started listening to them. The concert made me love them even more, and now I listen to them a lot. I would absolutely go to another one of their shows,” added Rynestad.
However, a concert becomes much more than a show when seeing your idol. Another LHS student, Jaelyn Campos, had the incredible experience of seeing Mariah Carey in 2019 as part of the tour for her then-new album, “Caution”, in April with her family.
“I don’t remember why we went exactly, I think it was because my uncle and I have basically always been fans of Mariah and it had been a while since she had toured. I begged my parents and eventually, they were convinced to take us,” said Jaelyn
As Jaelyn recounts, she has been a fan of Mariah for practically ages and owes a lot to the popular singer.
“I remember being so excited and seeing her in person was so crazy. Mariah has been such an influence on my love for singing. I remember saying, ‘I can’t believe I’m breathing the same air as her,’ ” gushed Campos.
Jaelyn describes her moment at the concert as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and was able to connect with her favorite superstar in a whole new way.
“Seeing the lights match the beat, singing along with her, and just hearing her sing live was so amazing. Definitely one of my favorite experiences ever,” exclaimed Campos.
While Jaelyn might not have had any photos to share, she still cherishes the memories from her time spent at the concert.
Having the opportunity to stand before your favorite artist is an incredible, life-changing experience. Being one of thousands in the crowd engulfs fans with an unforgettable feeling of excitement and these Liberty students know how to make the most of this special occasion. After a night of singing, dancing, and having fun, these concertgoers and many more leave the venue with memories that echo long after the last note.
