The week leading up to homecoming is always one of the most exciting times of the school year for students and staff alike at Liberty High School. Students spend the week sporting their school spirit and gearing up for both the homecoming football game and dance. One of the most honored traditions is the pep rally. Liberty students spend the entire week showing off school spirit in anticipation of this event. Students and staff compete with one another in a variety of fun games throughout the event. However, in the end, only one class walks away with the spirit stick.
“I’m super excited and I think it will be entertaining,” said freshman Ashton Mock, when asked how he felt about attending his first pep rally at Liberty. Other students also make comments on how exciting it is to watch all of the different activities and be able to hang out with their friends.
“I just like hanging out with my friends in the bleachers, it’s really nice to have that time to spend with them,” said senior Lily Crawford.
The pep rally has always proven to be a fun event for everyone at Liberty, especially students new to Liberty, the freshman class, and our foreign exchange students. They get to learn and be a part of traditions that have been happening at Liberty over the years.
“I didn’t know that some of the kids from my classes would actually be in it, and I thought that was really cool,” said freshman Carrissa Whitlock-Bryant.
One of the more favored activities at the pep rally is the students vs. staff tug-of-war. The class that comes out on top against the rest of the classes goes on to compete against the staff team for the ultimate victory.
“It’s probably the most fun thing that happens, it’s always fun to watch kids against teachers,” said junior Zoey Fox.
This year’s pep rally held some surprising events. The senior team took the win over the staff team in the tug-of-war competition for the first time in years. The senior class also gained another victory, proving to the school that they have the most spirit by winning the spirit stick.
“They were loud and showed a lot of spirit, so I think it is fair that they won,” said freshman Ashton Mock.
“I think it’s always nice to have school spirit and be able to participate and show it off,” said junior JT Utterback.
It is pretty easy to tell that Liberty is full of school spirit, no matter what class wins the spirit stick. The unconditional love and support from teachers, administration, students, and even parents are what shape Liberty into the place we love. School spirit can be found at Liberty year-round through all different events and activities. The pep rally is just one of the ways to show off.
