In the pursuit of academic brilliance, Bonnie Quansah is a shining example of determination and passion. Bonnie’s story is not just one of academic success but a display of resilience and the power of education.
In preparation for college, Bonnie searched for additional support, and she found it in the form of a scholarship. The scholarship she applied for and received, prioritizes helping low-income students who are high achievers. The Scholarship will cover housing, food, and travel, which is a major help for those who are just starting their journey in college life.
When Bonnie learned of this scholarship It was at her cross-country practice “It didn’t feel real I was crying, excited, the usual,” said Bonnie, and of course, her team was nearby. Jacinta Washington was around and heard the commotion and when she learned of the news she was so excited for her. “ she worked way too hard for it,” stated Washington. While Antwon Cline was cheering to the point of screaming, teammate, Aidan Neidich, was very happy for her.
When she informed her friends Elizabeth Montecinos and Brooke Boone their reactions were none the less of Bonnie’s. “She had a lot of struggles, really deserved,” said Liz. Brooke cheerfully said, “She deserves it and I was very excited for her when I found out”. As were many other people close to Bonnie.
With this scholarship, Bonnie will be able to pursue medicine, and hopefully get into her first choice John Hopkins University. “It was a long process starting in July when the application opened, I had to write an 800-word personal essay, another essay that was 500 words, and short answer questions with 250 words and I finished around September 26th. I had gotten the news on October 18th,” Quansah explained.
The reason why scholarships are so good is that they help a student pursue their dreams without paying for their education years after they graduate or not pay as much and won’t be in as much debt; when someone has come from a low-income family, an opportunity like that could change their whole world. It also depends on the scholarship you applied for. Sometimes they only pay for a little, and other times it could pay for a student’s entire secondary education. Bonnie applied for a scholarship that would match you up to a school, she was able to do this because she had joined many clubs did sports, and kept up a good GPA. Some schools will make her pay a little bit of money and the rest is covered. Other schools won’t make her pay and just have her be accepted.
Bonnie’s friends are super excited for her and will miss her when she goes off to college. Similarly, her family is incredibly proud of what she has accomplished as well as what she will continue to do in the future. Liberty is extremely proud to have such a bright student, who’s accomplishments and presence will continue growing. We all wish her the best of luck in college and her future.
