Since 2020, Liberty High School has held a Senior Sunset celebration every year in the school parking lot. Due to COVID restrictions that year, a traditional prom could not be held, and so the Senior Sunset was created. However, the event was such a hit with students that when prom was reintroduced, it was decided that Senior Sunset would stick around too. This is a night of fun and games where the Senior class is able to celebrate itself and quite literally watch the Sun set on their High School careers, ending this long chapter of their lives.
The 2024 Senior Sunset will be held on April 26th in the student parking lot, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. It is a very informal gathering, so there is no dress code that has to be followed. Activities at the event include backyard games (cornhole, disc slam, basketball pong, etc), an obstacle course, jousting, soccer darts, football and basketball challenges, and perhaps most impressive of all, a hot air balloon tether! Every student can also enter into a raffle. This raffle has been a draw since the start of the event, and is run by the Liberty Booster Club made up of proud LHS parents, who have put in such prizes as gift cards, mini-fridges, speakers, AirPods, TVs, VIP passes to Hogback Mountain (a paintball place) or Monster Mini Golf, and other things, many of them oriented towards providing for future college life. Perhaps the biggest prize of all, though, is the $2,024 check, given out to one student out of the entire Senior class. Food and drink – including Chic Fil A and Kona Ice – will be provided by the event organizers free of charge to attendees, and Mrs. Arnesson will be hosting a photo booth.
As the 2023-2024 school year draws to a close, and the High School careers of our Class of 2024 end with it, everyone is in high spirits and is looking forward to the last few school events. As one of the final events of the school year, everyone responsible for organizing this event – both admin and the Senior SCA – are doing all they can to end the school year with a bang, something that should be easily accomplished with the 15-minute end-of-the-night fireworks show.
