Fears can vary from anything like ants to giants. Where do fears stem from and why? There are many forms and versions of fear. Lots of individuals fear the same thing in life, but they should try to learn to overcome that fear.
Fear is universally triggered by a threat of harm to the mind or body. This can be reality or in one’s imagination. Fear itself starts in the brain and it startles a strong physical reaction in the body. As soon as fear is sensed or recognized, the amygdala, which is a tiny organ located in the middle of the brain, alerts the nervous system, and that makes the body scared.
There are many variations of fear, but one of the most common is Acrophobia. Acrophobia is a mental condition that has the person containing the fear of heights. This fear is also a type of anxiety disorder. Basiphobia, which is the fear of falling, is also closely related to Acrophobia. Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking and is also a very common fear. About 4 out of every 10 Americans have this fear. It’s very hard for those who have it to deal with situations like presentations, giving a speech, or even just talking to a group of people. Yes, there are many common phobias, but there are also very rare phobias. Phobophobia is the fear of phobias. Someone with this phobia will fear of having fears or fearing of something. Another strange and uncommon phobia is arachibutyrophobia, which is the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth. This doesn’t mean the individual is scared of the taste of peanut butter or that they don’t like it. They just hate it being stuck to their mouth and it terrifies them.
Overcoming your fears can be very hard. There are tricks to overcoming them though. Most of the time facing your fear is the easiest way to beat it. Having a fear of heights or falling would be quite easy to face, there are options like skydiving, bungee jumping, or a tall diving board. Changing the way you see your fear is also a nice option. Instead of viewing spiders as insects that can harm you. Look at them and know that they really couldn’t care less about you and most of them aren’t so dangerous.
Fears can vary from anything that you can think of. They may sprout from anywhere and anything. Instead of living a life full of fear, learn to overcome it. Embracing your fears is not just about overcoming obstacles, but it’s about discovering the courage to live authentically and fully.
