This school year, Liberty High School has gained a new theatre director, Mrs. Angela Cushing. Cushing attended a performing arts school in high school and continued to learn about the theatre arts in college and community theatre. “One of my greatest joys is to support students in finding and strengthening their talents and skills” Cushing stated. Cushing said that she decided to start teaching to help students follow their dreams, and to help students have fun while they’re doing it.
Liberty High School’s theatre department is filled with joyful students. From being on stage to being backstage the world of theatre comes to life through these students. “My favorite part of Liberty’s theatre department so far has been working with the students. I have learned a lot from my students watching them excel in ensemble performance. It’s amazing to me to watch my students work together to present the best piece of art possible” theatre director, Angela Cushing, stated.
This fall, Liberty High School’s theatre department is blessing us with another play. This year’s play is called The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In the picturesque village of Sleepy Hollow, strangeness and the feeling of wonder surround the headless Hessian. When the school teacher Ichabod Crain competes for the hand of Katrina Van Tassel, the townsman may not agree, but ultimately it is up to the Horseman to determine Ichabod’s fate.
With an eerie feeling taking over the crowd, audience members can expect some scares. An aura of red and orange makes the haunted hues stick out. The audience can also prepare themselves for a good laugh. Even though this story is a little spooky, laughter will fill the room. Ichabod Crane and the townsman help carry the humor from the beginning of the play to the end. Amid fall, this play will occur; right around Halloween. Even though the play is at the beginning of November, Liberty High School’s theatre department will be able to capture the essence of the spooky season perfectly.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is being performed on Friday, November 1st at 7 pm as well as Saturday, November 2nd at 2 pm and 7 pm. Please come out and support your classmates in the production. Students, teachers, and family members cannot wait for this performance. Excitement is rushing through everyone’s veins knowing that this event is roughly only 2 weeks away. “I am confident that The Legend of Sleepy Hollow will be one of the best performances seen at Liberty High School” exclaimed theatre director, Mrs. Angela Cushing.
