Cosmetology can be fun but it can be extremely difficult at times. You need to memorize many things, including safety, diseases, disorders, chemicals, the order in which something proceeds, the differences between people, and so many others. Once you learn and understand these things, cosmetology will get easier.
Safety is the most important part of cosmetology. Germs and bacteria can easily be spread if you don’t clean properly or keep your things organized. The main cleaning product is barbicide. Barbicide is used to clean implements you have used and you must use it before and after each client. You can not use the same implement on one client and then use it on another without disinfecting it first.
The easiest way to start cosmetology is to start in school. This is the easiest way because you will get your cosmetology license when you graduate. Here at Liberty, the cosmetology students learn how to properly do and style hair, dye hair, manicures, pedicures, wax, lashes, and what looks good on different peoples’ hair types and styles. They start off learning the basics and why it’s important and eventually work their way up to dying hair and getting better at styles and designs. At the end of their third year in cosmetology, they study and work hard to prepare for their final cosmetology exam hoping they pass.
It is very important to know each disease and disorder so you or other clients don’t catch something. Knowing and identifying the different diseases can help you recommend professional help to your client. With certain disorders you can still do their hair or nails, you just have to be cautious.
There is a correct order of each task that has to be done very cautiously. If something is not done in the right order something could go wrong and it can be extremely damaging. If you use too much of a chemical or too little of a chemical it could also damage the hair. You also don’t want to mix certain products together because it could be something completely different and cause hair loss and/or damage to the hair.
Sometimes it can be hard to get into cosmetology in school because of how many people want to do it, so another thing that could be done to join cosmetology is to go to cosmetology school. Cosmetology school is a great experience and has many more opportunities than in most schools. At Liberty, we can not do acrylic nails because the smell of the monomer is very strong and the cosmetology room doesn’t have ventilation. Cosmetology school can also introduce you to new things to do and give you great ideas. Even if you do cosmetology in school it would be an amazing experience to go to cosmetology school for a couple of years, because you can learn new styles and experiment a little bit more before actually pursuing one or two things without getting the chance to see what all of the cosmetology world is about and what they do.
After officially getting your Cosmetology License you will be able to work at a salon and do what you love best. Even though it seems like a lot to learn and understand, it will be hard at first, but as you practice and practice it will get easier and more fun.
