This debate has been going on for a while over the length of sports seasons. If the NFL follows the NBA’s 82-game format, it will jeopardize the excitement and integrity of America’s favorite sport. The reason why it’s bad to have 82 games in the NFL is that Football is not meant for it. People take hits in football like just tackling them, and 82 games will make their bodies weak, and they need to recover. I don’t think that they will even make it to 82 games. I think they will be so tired and so stressed out about the games that it puts a lot of pressure on the teams and players. The physical aspect aside, football players spend so much time in rooms planning for the games and watching tapes. They have to break off into their position meeting to prepare every single week.
The reason why the NBA has 82 games to play is because it is a holdover from the team when the league had only 12 teams. By playing each conference rival eight times, and each inter-conference team seven times, you wound up with 82 games. The league hit this number in the late 1960s and has used it ever since. Just like the NHL, they play 82 games, and yes, it can be aggressive and there’s always fights, People punching each other, but people over at NHL say that it’s a consistent game count So that means it allows a balanced schedule with each team having 41 home games and 41 away games. Even a rookie NHL season has more games than an NFL season. I think the Super Bowl is the most watched, then the NBA finals, and the NFL Stanley Cup. I mean, there is the World Cup and that’s the biggest, but that only comes every 4 years, but with the Super Bowl, you can watch it every year.
There are a lot of players who have torn their ACLs and are injured for the season, and that’s not good for the players because they want to play football and try to win, and have fun. With 82 games, they would get hurt so bad that they would probably have to retire early, and there will be a lot of people gone from the NFL because of injuries, or they are just tired of this. Some people might say, “It would be a good thing for football because we don’t have to wait for football to come, we can get more football to watch every day”. I mean yeah, that is true, who doesn’t like football every day but the NFL has some events that happen in the offseason like signing players and cutting players and trading and roster decisions and There’s the draft, and so much more all to be made between now and the regular season kickoff in september. That gives the players 9 weeks to rest and chill, plus it gives the team time to have meetings and give strength to the team. Then they do team workouts to see their power, and if a player was injured last season, then they can see how much they can do and work on that injury. So the right thing to do is to have 17 games in the NFL, so teams can have a chance to make big plans for the offseason before the season starts and the players where they can recover from injury that they have had before or train really hard to get ready for the season so they can win a championship.
