May is classified as Mental Health Awareness Month. During this whole month, organizations come together to educate the community about the importance of not overlooking the mental well-being of their community. Mental health is a very important thing that many people don’t take seriously. Many people who suffer from mental health conditions don’t tell anyone or look for help because they are either misunderstood or they don’t have the resources to get help for themselves. Many people who have mental health issues suffer from conditions such as anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. Mental Health Awareness Month shines a light on the importance of having open and clear conversations about mental health with their community. This month is also here to make sure people start prioritizing their mental health.
Mental Health Awareness Month is once a month every year during May. Many people in our communities have struggled with mental health issues like PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar disorder, and so much more. People struggle every day not because they want to, but sometimes because they can’t help it. Many people don’t seek treatment due to the fact they sometimes don’t have the opportunity to seek help. These conditions are very serious, and they shouldn’t be taken lightly because they are real things people are struggling with. Anxiety can be a dangerous mental health issue that people have, and some people go undiagnosed, which can lead to their mental health deteriorating even further. For example, undiagnosed anxiety can lead to substance abuse and even suicidal thoughts. There are also many different types of anxiety we have, Moderate anxiety, panic level anxiety, and so many more. Moderate anxiety is very persistent worrying, constantly having problems concentrating, etc. Mental health doesn’t just cause anxiety, but it can also lead to Bipolar disorder. There isn’t just one mental health factor that can cause it, however, it’s a combination of biological, psychological, and environmental influences. Bipolar disorder can be described as extreme mood shifts, hypomania, and sometimes periods of depression. Bipolar disorder can make everyday life, work, and relationships very difficult. Hypomania is an abnormal psychological state that is similar but more controlled than mania.
Mental health doesn’t just lead to mental disorders, it can also affect a person’s physical health. Mental health conditions like anxiety and depression have the risk of developing chronic illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, and different types of cancers. Mental health doesn’t directly cause cancer, but mental health can lead to bad habits such as substance abuse, smoking, and other things, which then lead to cancer. People struggling with mental health issues often start to neglect themselves and their bodies, which can then lead to complications. Having physical health issues can make individuals have poor mental health due to all the issues relating to that specific individual’s physical health. Having poor mental health can cause people to have headaches, sleep issues, fatigue, and even digestive issues, especially when they neglect their health
Mental health is a never-ending struggle that unfortunately sometimes cannot be avoided. It’s important to educate the community about the importance of Mental Health Awareness Month. This is why May is an essential month that shouldn’t ever be overlooked. People are struggling in the world, and it’s our responsibility to help them through it because that is what a community is all about: helping each other. These conditions that poor mental health can lead to are very scary things to deal with, and the people who are suffering in silence need to be heard. This is why Mental Health Month is important and shouldn’t be overlooked.
