Bags have been incredible and useful portable tools throughout human history, dating back to ancient Egypt. Drawstring bags, satchels, purses, backpacks, tote bags, bucket bags, fanny packs, duffle bags, cross-body, and so on were invented for an easier human life. People use them for school, work, and out in public, especially in crowded places. Modern bags vary in size. Backpacks and suitcases are usually meant for work zones. These bags are often big enough for a laptop and a charger, maybe some books and a lunch, along with small necessities like keys and a wallet. Purses and bags are usually targeted at fashion. These types of bags can carry a phone, lipstick, perhaps make-up wipes, and smaller things once again. Bags are extremely important for most people for most of their lives when they attend school. Students mainly carry backpacks, while most teachers have a variety of bags. We know what bags could be used for, but with each bag comes a different person, meaning different items are always to be packed.
Ms. Corbin:
Ms. Corbin’s bag contains her wallet, phone, a Ziploc bag full of extra hair ties, her checkbook, keys, Vaseline, lip gloss, hand cream, hand sanitizer, a copy of her green card, tissues, safety pins, a LOT of pens, and a little diary/calendar she uses to record scheduling and other notes/events. Ms. Corbin makes it known that she does NOT carry any gum or mints with her.
Ms. Kreutz:
Ms. Kreutz usually uses her backpack only for school, containing a smaller purse inside that she moves from time to time between her bag and her bigger purse. The purse contains her wallet, keys, nail clippers, ‘bougie’ hand sanitizer (very important when dealing with freshmen), wipes, VERY necessary bluey puppets for a very PROFESSIONAL bluey club at her daughter’s school, friction pens, colored markers, thank you notes from her daughters PTA, fliers for her daughters competition team, a etch to sketch (quite a few actually), tiny first aid kit (that is used every day), a roll of postcard stamps, freeze-dried strawberries, business cards and stickers, a fan, buttons, old gift bags, and finally her umbrella and water bottle! I think Ms.Kreutz’s crowded bag means she’s very busy! Her two daughters participate in a lot of after-school activities, and Ms.Kreutz has played a big part in their school life. Her bag is only naturally prepared for more than her English teaching.
Mrs.Converse:
Mrs. Converse has a small purse she brings to school, always carrying pens, hand sanitizer, feminine products, a checkbook just in case, and her keys for her car! She also mentioned a wad of cards from stores. Mrs.Converse’s purse is not jumbled or crowded, only filled with most convenient items.
Ms.Hunsley:
Ms. Hunsley has a big backpack just like Ms. Kreutz! Her bag contains lots of food, her wallet, her keys, sunscreen, a tape measure that is used for sociology yearly that has been forgotten in the bag (pretty conveniently, so she doesn’t have to repack it or forget it at home), and a bunch of magazines in the back to give her backpack some structure! Ms.Hunsley’s bag is FILLED with useful things, just like Ms. Kreutz’s, prepared for almost anything, even if it’s not related to history class!
Ms.Nehar:
Ms.Nehar gave me a lovely description of her bag, which contains a water bottle, snacks, a lesson planner, a book, pens, and sticky notes! Ms.Nehar’s bag is nice and simple, most of the items being usable for remembering things!!
Even though teachers all work at the same place, what they carry on them can be very different. All of these teachers come to Liberty everyday to teach their students and work with others. Their bags being one of the essential items they need to bring as not only does it carry tools to help themselves throughout the day, it can also characterize the person themselves, teachers being human of course. The question at the end of the day is…what’s in YOUR bag? Do you too bring ONLY the necessary things to school, or maybe you also carry an arrangement of personal objects? The bag is an essential, in more ways than one.
