Jack White was born on July 9th, 1975, in Detroit, Michigan. He and Meg White started a band called The White Stripes, which you have definitely heard before. They have a huge hit song called “Seven Nation Army” that features an iconic bass line, which our school band plays at football games.
Jack grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1993. After he graduated from high school, he started working as an upholsterer in a gritty neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan. It was during this time that Jack got serious about his music. He started a two-piece band called The Upholsterers with his mentor, Brian Muldoon. He married Meg White in 1996, then went on to form the iconic band, The White Stripes, in 1997 with her. On March 24th, 2000 Jack and Meg White got divorced but continued on with their band.
The White Stripes consisted of Jack White on vocals and guitar and Meg White on drums, with occasional vocals. The White Stripes gained fame in 2001 after they released their studio album “White Blood Cells” with their first hit on it, “Fell In Love With A Girl”; the song also gained fame from its innovative music video. In 2002, The White Stripes recorded their fourth studio album, “Elephant”, using only antiquated, pre-1960s equipment. Jack also made his debut as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live, performed live with Jeff Beck in London, and had the song “Fell In Love With A Girl” win awards at the MTV Video Music Awards. In 2003, The White Stripes released their fourth studio album, “Elephant”, with the iconic song “Seven Nation Army”. In 2004, Jack White and The White Stripes won their first Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album, performed “Seven Nation Army” at the ceremony, and Jack joined Bob Dylan on stage for a performance of “Ball and Biscuit”. In 2005, Jack released The White Stripes’ album “Get Behind Me Satan”. and toured extensively in support of it. Also, that year, he produced the first single for Brian Muldoon’s family project, The Muldoons, and released the White Stripes’ cover of “Walking With A Ghost”. In 2006, Jack and Meg White made a cameo in an episode of The Simpsons. In 2007, The White Stripes released their final album, “Icky Thump”, and embarked on a final Canadian tour, including a famously short “one-note” concert in Newfoundland. In Nashville, Jack joined Bob Dylan on stage, then scored a Coca-Cola Commercial directed by Nagi Noda. The White Stripes’ final performance was on the final episode of Late Night With Dylan O’Brien in 2009. They officially broke up in February 2011. Jack and Meg White stated they were ending their career to preserve the band’s “beautiful and special” legacy. Also, a fun fact is that The White Stripes’ song “Little Ghost” plays at the end of the children’s movie “Paranorman”.
In 2008, Jack was in a documentary movie called “It Might Get Loud” with Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin and Edge from U2. In 2012, Jack released his first solo album, “Blunderbuss”, with hits on it like “Love Interruption”, “Sixteen Saltines”, and “I’m Shakin”, which was featured in the hit show The Vampire Diaries. In 2014, Jack released his album “Lazzaretto” with hits like “Entitlement”, “Want and Able”, and “Would You Fight For My Love?”. In 2018, he released his third solo album, “Boarding House Ranch,” with hits on it like “Corporation”, “Connected By Love”, and “What’s Done Is Done”. Recently, Jack has been on tour, but there really aren’t any set tour dates. However, on his website, JackWhiteIII.com, it says tour dates are constantly being announced, sometimes on short notice.
Overall, I would say that Jack White is a very successful and influential rock star. I think that everyone should listen to either The White Stripes or Jack White at least once because I personally think all of his work is amazing. I strongly recommend everyone to listen to either Jack White or The White Stripes if you haven’t already!
