Liberty High School held their annual Powderpuff game on October 10, 2025 this year. Powderpuff is an event held at Liberty during the school day where other students can come out of their classes to watch the game. Powderpuff is a girls only event where girls from each grade sign up to play football against each grade level. Whichever team wins the first games, play against each other for a first place spot, while the other two teams play against each other for a third place spot.
During the powderpuff players’ SOAR classes for the past few weeks, players went and practiced for the game, doing drills and running through situations that could happen in the game. The practices mainly focused on specific drills, like, catching, throwing, and running drills, while having fun and bonding with their teammates.
To start the game, the seniors played the freshman, while the juniors played the sophomores. The seniors ended up coming out on top beating the freshman in the first game, While the sophomores beat the juniors. After the break, the seniors and sophomores played each other, along with the freshman playing the juniors. In the end the sophomores won, with the seniors right behind them, and juniors beating the freshman, and taking third place with freshman in fourth place.
With it being the seniors last year at Liberty, they wanted to take the win. But, same as last year, the sophomores played hard and took the win again this year. All teams played very hard, but the sophomore team followed through and won.
The experience in powderpuff can be fun for the fans and players. The players get to have a day to play flag football, with their friends and classmates and enjoy the time, while still competing for a win. During the game, every player had shown that they have good sportsmanship, and good team work with their teammates. The fans in the stands get to enjoy and break from class, and watch their friends and classmates play football. The fans also had the chance to get kona ice while they watched the game. Freshman player, Molly Dodson stated, “I liked powderpuff because I get to practice and play football. I’m going to join again next year because of the experience and the teamwork from the players.”
Since Powderpuff is just for fun and to experience this event, it’s nice just to take it as a chance to play football or watch football. Even if teams are competing, players are there for fun and to enjoy the sport they love. “It doesn’t matter if we win or lose, but it matters if everyone is having fun, and gets to play, and not leaving anyone out from playing.” said freshman player, Izzy Patterson.
The powderpuff game had a great outcome this year. Many students wanted to play in the game and if they couldn’t play they still wanted to support the team by watching. Multiple male seniors got the chance to cheer for the senior team in the powderpuff game. Those students got to warm up with the Liberty cheerleaders and did some of the cheerleaders actual cheers.
