Liberty High School’s Homecoming Spirit Week was October 20 to October 24, 2025, the week leading up to the annual Homecoming Dance. Liberty had many fun activities lined up for their spirit week to encourage students to get excited about Homecoming.
Every day of Spirit Week had a theme. Monday was Meme day, dress up as your favorite current or past meme. Tuesday was Teacher/Student swap day, teachers dress like students and students dress like teachers. Wednesday was white lies, write a lie about yourself on a white t-shirt and wear it to school. Thursday was beach day, dress in your best beach attire. Friday was LHS spirit day, wear your favorite LHS spiritwear. Many students said their favorite spirit day was LHS spirit because they enjoy wearing red, white, and blue to support Liberty High School.
October 24, the day before homecoming, would usually be full with lots of homecoming fun. The tailgate, the football, homecoming court during the game, but not this year. The game that was scheduled against Manassas Park on Friday was cancelled. Manassas park had to forfeit the game due to only having 13 players available for the evening game. Without a homecoming game, there is no announcing of the homecoming court. This left students disappointed for many reasons. For seniors, it would’ve been their last home game ever. “I feel enraged that the seniors don’t get to play one last homecoming game because I have so many friends that play for the team and they were mad,” said junior, Travis Moyer. “Last year they lost homecoming and they didn’t have another chance to redeem themselves.”
Many parents went as far as to email administrators about an alternative so that they could walk their sons and daughters out for homecoming court. The homecoming game would’ve been the last home game of the season. The attendance for the homecoming game, in years past, has been very high. Now the homecoming court is taking place at the JV football game tonight, Tuesday, October 28th.
In past years, the homecoming tailgate, held in the parking lot by the Agriculture department, has been a big hit with students. Due to low attendance from last year’s tailgate, there wasn’t one this year. Junior and SCA member, Kaelin Schmitz said “I will miss having the tailgate this year, but it is a little bit of a relief because typically we’re stressing, setting up for home coming.” Senior, Katie Crile agreed stating, “Yes the tailgate is always fun, but I understand the reason they aren’t having it. Less people have been coming over the past couple years but I think it really helps us because we will have more time to decorate.”
During the whole week, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors competed for the spirit stick. At the pep rally, all grades competed in games. By the end of the pep rally, the spirit stick was given to the winning grade and will be named the grade with the most school spirit. In past years, usually junior or seniors have won. This year, the Class of 2026 took the spirit stick home. Seniors are now two-time champions of the spirit stick.
