Mind over matter means using mental strength to overcome challenges and it keeps people motivated to reach their goal. Since it is getting colder outside, it can affect the way students do their work and how they get their work done. When it is cold outside it can also be cold in the school and make it harder for students to concentrate and classes can get harder since SOL testing has started. SOLs can also be a bit stressful since you must pass them to graduate.
Sometimes students need a little advice from other students . It could help them with their work , so I asked Sophomore, Adriana Prudencio Guenvano “what is a good thing to have while in class and how can it help you ?” She said, “Having friends in class helps me stay awake since I fall asleep sometimes, so a friend could help me with my work.“ Sometimes students can have a hard time staying awake. Maybe the class is their 1st block and they are still tired in the morning. So having a friend in class to talk to can keep you awake and motivated to do your work.
There can be other things to do besides socializing to stay motivated. A good tip from Sophomore, Genieve Johnson was to “Pay attention in class more and ask questions with your work and put effort into your work and not procrastinate.” Paying attention in class is the main thing that can help you stay motivated and it can help you understand the concepts more.
Going to SOAR when you have a low grade in your class can be a good way to keep your grade up and help you stay motivated. It can bring your grade up a lot if you “Lock in”. “SOAR helps to get your work done,” stated Johnson, “It’s better when some people from your class aren’t there to distract you.” Sometimes people can be distracting while trying to do work so going to soar definitely helps with grades.
In this winter season, SOL testing and midterms can be in the same week for students making it hard for them to get all their work done and turned in on time. That can make their grades go down and make it more stressful for them. Some good tips to help students focus when they are trying to study is listening to music like lofi music or jazz. It can help them concentrate better. Or another option is chewing the same gum you did while studying, it can help you remember things better.
Mind over matter helps students push through the challenges of school. Especially during SOL testing and as classes get harder throughout the year. It gets easy to feel stressed out but staying motivated means to believe in yourself and to try and keep a positive attitude . Even when it’s hard to stay motivated it’s good to set small goals. And to take breaks while doing work and when you’re working hard make sure to reassure yourself and tell yourself you are doing a good job. If you stay motivated you can get difficult things done faster.
