If you have not heard yet, there is a new live-action movie, “Sonic the Hedgehog,” that is set to release on February 14, 2020. Sega planned to release the movie on November 8, 2019, but plans that they had for that date changed, and has left some people confused. If you saw the first trailer of “Sonic the Hedgehog” than you most likely know why the release data was changed.

On his journey, he meets Tom Wachowski, played by James Marsden, a former SFPD officer-turned-newly appointed Sheriff of Green Hills, Montana, who befriends Sonic and aids him in his quest to stop Robotnik. Then you have Dr. Robotnik, a scientist and inventor plotting world domination. He is after Sonic and his power of speed. 

The first trailer of the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog” had so many complaints that Sega and Director Jeff Fowler remade the entire movie. The fans of Sonic went to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and even YouTube with complaints on the plot of the movie and how Sonic’s appearance looks nothing like how he originally did.

One of the biggest complaints about the trailer on Sonic was the way Sonic looked. The only thing that made him look like Sonic was his size and the fact that he is blue, there was literally nothing else to make him look like him. One of the biggest problems with the way Sonic looks in the trailer is his eyes. His eyes were tiny, beady, vaguely sinister, and just did not look the usual. Another problem was Sonic’s teeth. Why does Sonic even have teeth? Specifically, why are they human teeth? The last problem I personally think is terrible are his shoes. Sonic is supposed to have big red shoes with a white line starting from one side of the shoe, going over the top of the shoe, and then ending on the opposite side. SOnic is not supposed to wearing off brand Nike shoes.

There was another part of the trailer that is still in the new trailer which isn’t either good or bad. The Signature golden rings from the games seem to crip up as teleporters, which is pretty cool, and a nice nod to them being used to jump to special stages within the game. One thing that’s not in this movie is Sonic’s friends, including Miles Prower or better known as “Tails,” Amy Rose who is the pink hedgehog, Sonic’s self-proclaimed girlfriend, Knuckles the Echidna, Sonic’s friendly rival, and many more. Maybe if Sega makes a “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” than they might add a few of Sonic’s friends.

I really love how Sega and Fowler actually listened to their fan’s requests and suggestions, and remade the movie in a masterpiece. Sega and Fowler really captured Sonic the Hedgehog’s personality in this trailer, he makes jokes, he is sarcastic, very energetic, and the creators just did a good job on his personality overall. In the first trailer, there were only a few moments his personality made him sound like Sonic the Hedgehog and captured who he is, but most of the old trailer was a really big disappointment.

So after all of the complaints from fans of Sonic, including myself, and the show remaking the whole movie, I feel like this movie is going to be really enjoyable and like something we have never seen before.
