The Quarterfinals of the Champions League

The+Quarterfinals+of+the+Champions+League

The UEFA Champions League is one of the biggest tournaments in Europe, as it decides which soccer club in Europe is the best. It is the most watched club soccer tournament in the world, this tournament happens annually, with the tournament beginning around September and ending around the end of May to the beginning of June. Currently, the tournament is in its quarter-finals and this year has been an intense competition since all the teams are anticipated to win. On April 9th & 10th, the 1st leg of the quarter-finals took place and the matches were extraordinary, with the most anticipated matches being Real Madrid C.F vs Manchester City F.C and F.C Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain. However, there are more matches such as Arsenal Vs Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund, but these are the others that are the biggest clubs in Europe and the world.

The match with Real Madrid vs Manchester City started with Manchester’s Bernardo Silva scoring a free kick in the 1st minute of the match, but luckily Real Madrid gathered themselves and by the 11th minute they had another chance to score. Eduardo Camavinga shot the ball through the middle and bounced it off Manchester defender Ruben Dias, equalizing the match for both clubs. After 2 more minutes, Rodrigo manages to slip through City’s defenses and the goalkeeper and scraps by to score a goal giving Madrid the lead.

As the game goes to halftime the score is 2-1. When the teams return from halftime, the game is now high stakes for both sides to win. In the 65th minute, City’s Phil Foden scores and ties the game for both sides, and then in the 70th minute Josko Gvardiol scores and gives Manchester City the lead, but in a few minutes Valverde scores and makes the game’s final score 3-3 for the first match making the aggregate 3-3. In the second match between Real Madrid and Manchester City, the game was 1-1, and the game-winner was decided by penalties, which resulted in Real Madrid winning.  Meanwhile, other teams such as Bayern Munich VS Arsenal also had a tie but Bayern Munich ended up winning the overall match in the second leg with a goal from Joshua Kimmich. Atletico Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund ended in 2-1 in Atletico’s favor, but the second match ended with Dortmund making an incredible comeback.

One of the biggest anticipated games was FC Barcelona’s match vs Paris Saint-Germain, the rivalry between these 2 clubs in the Champions League is extraordinary. These teams have faced off multiple times with many amazing moments from these matches, such as Barcelona’s “Remontada” against PSG in 2017. These recent 2 matches proved to be in PSG’s favor. In the first match at the Parcs de Princes in Paris, Barcelona managed to win 3-2, shutting down the criticism the club has been facing all season. This win proved to give Barcelona some confidence against PSG. Unfortunately in the second leg of the match, PSG beat Barcelona with a huge comeback 4-1 resulting in the aggregate being 6-4. These quarterfinals of the Champions League proved which teams have come out on top, and now it is time for the semifinals.
