The Senior Experience

The+Senior+Experience

The end of senior year can be a big transition for a lot of students. It is the start of their life as young adults and they have more responsibilities to take on. Senior year is about getting prepared for graduation, life after high school, and much more. How students spend their senior year of school is what they mainly base their high school experience on.

Being a senior in high school, you start to look back in time and remember all the good and bad times throughout all the years in high school. “My favorite part about senior year would probably be having three class periods, two of those classes being cosmetology. I am glad I was also able to experience taking the state board tests for cosmetology, and also being in that class with only two other girls,” said senior, Cindy Castellanos. Some students may be ready to be done with high school by the time they reach the middle of the school year, while others are not ready to have this big change in their lives. “Coming from another school, my senior experience was a dreadful, yet necessary step in my life. Not knowing anyone nor what to expect when arriving left me in a state of paralysis for some time,” said senior, Christian Hahn. Liberty High School is a great place for new students. Most of the student body is very inviting and helpful to new people. “After months of transitioning into life at Liberty, I finally found a group of people that I could finally feel at ease with. Abby Rodriguez, Aden Yates, and Cindy Castellanos were the first people to give me the time of day and accept me for who I am. Having friends to go to made it much more bearable in this foreign school,” said Christian Hahn.

Many teachers strive to help their students succeed throughout their high school years. “Mrs. Majerowicz was extremely helpful in helping me find my identity during my sophomore and junior years. She was always encouraging and helped students with their work,” said senior, Elizabeth Montecinos. There should always be at least one teacher that a student can seek out to get help from and be able to see them as a role model.

As the end of the year gets closer, students realize that they are almost finished with school and it can get a little scary, but we know in the end all good things are bound to come. “This year was full of ups and downs but at the end of it all, I can say that I have found a little bit more about myself,” said senior Christian Hahn. Staying true to yourself and knowing your self-worth is always important, especially when you are moving into a new environment or a new chapter in your life. There will always be different obstacles that we have to overcome, and that is partially what senior year is all about. Figuring out how to begin handling things as maturely as possible, and prioritizing important things.
