If you ask people about their childhood, most of them will mention watching their favorite movies and TV Shows. For me, a core memory was watching Inside Out 1 with my family. I was 5 years old when Inside Out 1 first came out in June of 2015. I loved it.

I was immediately intrigued by the characters and the emotions they portrayed. My favorite character was Disgust because she was funny and her attitude stood out to me. I didn’t quite understand the meaning of the movie because I was only 5 at the time, but I loved the fun colors and cheerfulness of the movie. It became one of my all-time favorites.

When I heard the announcement of the release of Inside Out 2, I couldn’t contain my excitement. They were going to portray Riley, the main character of the movie, as a teenager. I felt that I could relate more to the movie now that I was also a teenager. I also heard they were adding more emotions which made me curious. Inside Out 2 came out in June of 2024. I went with my friends to the theater to watch Inside Out 2 to see if I would love it just as much as I loved the original. 

When the characters were introduced, I thought it was great. My favorite character, Disgust, had the same attitude that I adored when I was little. A new addition to the emotions also stood out to me. Anxiety was one of the newest emotions added to Riley’s world and I could relate to how she was feeling. Overall, I felt like the newer emotions were a good choice to incorporate into the movie.

There were emotional aspects to the movie as well. Riley was dealing with a lot and as a teenager, it was hard for her to express herself. I liked the fact that there were multiple points of view that the movie could be seen from. My mom was also there with me watching the movie. I think that parents watching Inside Out 2 could catch a glimpse of what life is like for us through Riley’s eyes. It helped my mom understand my emotions and feelings a little bit better. 

Inside Out 2 was an energy-filled movie and I enjoyed watching every minute of it. This movie was entertaining and it reminded me of my childhood. The timing for releasing Inside Out 2 couldn’t have been better. I couldn’t exactly comprehend Inside Out 1 perfectly when I was 5 years old, but looking back, I understand it a lot more. I related so much to each emotion. Inside Out 2 shows the struggles of being a teenager, but it also shows you how to cope.

I would recommend Inside Out 2 to anyone who wants to be entertained. The plot is very interesting and I was content throughout the screening. Inside Out 2 is going to be out on Disney Plus on September 25th, 2024. If you didn’t get a chance to watch this movie in theaters, you still have time. Gather your friends and family, get some snacks and blankets, and watch Inside Out 2 from the comfort of your own home!
