The freshman boys basketball team at Liberty High School has had an exciting season. Liberty hasn’t had a freshman boys basketball team for a few seasons now. For these young men, being on the team has given them a wonderful opportunity to prepare for a future in high school basketball. . With strong communication, hard work, and a positive attitude, the team has grown both on and off the court. Players cheer each other on, show up ready to play, and bring energy to every game and practice.They practice their offence and defence and learn how to get better at the game.
The team practices speaking up and having good sportsmanship while standing up for themselves and giving their all whether it’s a practice or a game. They try to build their confidence the best they can and stay positive.Whether they win or lose, they have learned to stay positive and learn from each game. Freshman, Kyle Novlan states, “Being on this team, I’ve learned to stay disciplined, learn from others, and to never give up.” Not only are they learning good lessons on the court, but they are also learning valuable life lessons.
Team practices also focus on specific skills like ball handling, shooting, and positioning. While the team worked hard to improve areas like rebounding, their dedication has led to noticeable growth. They work on their specific positions and learn where they play best on the court. No matter where they put them, the players take on that duty with a positive attitude and are motivated to succeed. They practice shooting and layups. They know to pass the ball fast and defend just like their coach taught them. Freshman, Isaiah Lambert notes,”My coach has taught me to be a better player and work the ball more”. Stretching and after games has helped the team prevent injuries and stay in top shape this season.
This season brought a new coach, Coach Shawn Lewis, who has made a strong impression on the players. The team appreciates his guidance, encouragement, and unique approach to practice..They all look up to their coach and use him as a role model. The way he talks to them and makes them feel important is truly inspiring. He gives them so much confidence on and off the court. ”The coach is very good and he’s very inspiring to me and I like him a lot,” comments Freshman, Caleb Eisele “He has taught me very well”. Players say they appreciate their coach’s guidance and unique approach. They admire how he builds confidence on and off the court and keeps practices fun while still pushing them to improve.
The future on this basketball team is bright.. The boys have had an amazing fun season as they’re going to keep working hard on and off seasons.Players continue to work hard on skills and conditioning, and their positive attitude and teamwork set them up for continued success. This season has not only been entertaining for fans but also a meaningful experience for the players, helping them build confidence, skills, and a love for the game.
