Taylor Allison Swift, better known as Taylor Swift, is one of the highest-earning singers in the music industry. Starting her career in 2006, she gained fame for her songs detailing her challenging experiences with men and romantic relationships.

Recently, the singer found herself in controversy when a 21-year-old college student tracked the use of her $44 million Dassault Falcon 7X private jet, Jack Sweeney, who also tracked Elon Musk the creator of Tesla. Sweeney exposed how Swift took a private flight from Cahokia/St. Louis, Illinois, US, to St. Louis, Missouri, lasting only 13 minutes. Many criticized the decision, arguing that a private jet was unnecessary for such a short distance when a car could have covered it in just 19 minutes.  “I personally like Taylor but that doesn’t mean I’m going to agree with everything that she does, I think a lot of famous people have normalized doing it a lot because they are famous, I think it wouldn’t make a big difference if she just went in her car, but I also think people somehow overreacted because it’s Taylor, a lot of celebrities so it too and they never got called out as Taylor did,” said junior, Angie Escalante.

The situation is further complicated by criticism of Swift’s environmental impact from her flights. It has been pointed out that her travels significantly contribute to carbon dioxide pollution. A Business report revealed that Swift emitted over 8,000 tons of CO2 in 2023 using her private jet, but Swift disputes these findings, stating they are inconclusive. which gives us a very contradictory opinion of Swift, since she in a 2020 interview said that climate change was one of the “horrible situations we are facing right now,” especially among young people.

Swift’s lawyers have filed a lawsuit against the student, claiming that exposing the singer’s flights could jeopardize her safety and cause undue concern for her family. The student, in a post, expressed that his intention was never to cause harm. And that he actually likes some of the songs by Taylor Swift
