There are so many different types of readers out there, diversity spreads far with distinct reading levels and tastes in genres. We can explore those differences on the school-provided app Sora. Sora is an app that has over one thousand audio and e-books, helping people who have a difficult time reading and enhancing people’s ability to read. It’s not just in school, but to enjoy anywhere. There are special features that Sora has that help struggling readers understand the content that is being placed upon them. Sora has the ability to bookmark pages that you want to save or come back to, highlighting sentences or phrases that catch your eye, writing notes to explain your thinking, and a built-in dictionary to explain unfamiliar words. These features can help even the most advanced readers with expressing thoughts, safe-keeping quotes, and keeping track of their favorite characters.
Many of the participants have described the love for being able to spend less money on books with the ability to read on Sora. Books can be quite expensive to get a hard copy of and a lot of people don’t have that kind of money. With Liberty’s contribution to new books on the app, students and staff are able to read trending book titles without paying a penny. It gives everyone here a chance to enjoy the company of a good book or audiobook all the time. With the Sora app you can also get it on any electronic device such as; tablet, Ipad, Iphone, or computer.Students and teachers alike are enjoying the app and all of its services.“Sora gives me an extra resource to find books, it’s a bigger platform with more books that are all free” says Sophomore, Cassandra Schaidt.
Teachers explained how the ability of audiobooks helps more reluctant readers understand and enjoy what they are reading. The dictionary feature explains what the words and phrases mean, helping those students go into deeper understanding with the content. Some of those hesitant readers explained how those features help them with the ability to not have the words from basic reading, jumbled. The audiobooks allow students to understand what the teachers are pointing across and help them enjoy what they are learning. Users of the app love the accessibility to books.“I don’t have to go to the library everyday, and can read anywhere,” explains Sophomore, Conor Hartless
Altogether, Sora is a great resource to enjoy and enhance the love of literature. It helps engage students with new material and content that could help them for a better future. Since the release of the Soar app, students and staff have found value in what they have seen from the app and all agree that more people should take a look at what it has to offer. There are so many more books that individuals here at Liberty can enjoy. Teachers can use sora in class for reading instead of sending students to the library ever so often, this will help students enjoy reading more frequently and happily.
