On March 25, 2026, the First Lady, Melania Trump, hosted a technology summit for her Fostering the Future Together global initiative where she was escorted by “Figure 03”, an AI-powered humanoid robot. The robot walked alongside her to promote AI in education. As we begin to see more and more advancements in technology, especially in AI, we may want to question what this means for the future of society.
Some customer service employees have already been replaced by AI robots. Employees may need to find different jobs as technology becomes more advanced. As AI takes over many jobs, certain human skills will become irrelevant, making it harder for them to find equivalent employment. Workers may face job loss if they cannot transition to a different position with a different skillset. Not only will the job market be completely different but we may lose the human connection that we once had. Instead of a human on the other side of the customer service line, it’s an emotionless machine. Dependence on AI systems makes business vulnerable to technological failures and security risks. Automated systems can result in lower service quality, reduced customer satisfaction, and a loss of personal interaction.
Besides the negatives of these machines, they can provide many skills that humans cannot. Robots are able to handle tedious and strenuous tasks that could be dangerous for people. They can work any day and all day without fatigue, leading to more output and faster, more accurate,and precise tasks. Businesses can significantly lower expenses related to salaries, benefits, and training employees by acquiring AI. Even though robots can take over some jobs, they also create them. As more technology is invented, we need more engineers to build, program, and fix these machines. AI allows humans to focus on creative and strategic ways to boost business.

In an everyday aspect, AI powers the personalized recommendations everyone sees on Netflix and Spotify, as well as navigation apps and control smart home devices such as thermostats. Siri, Alexa, and Google Home are all powered by AI. In healthcare, physicians use AI to analyze medical images. Lastly, the more popular use for AI, creating images.
There are more technological advancements around us than we thought. AI is already changing how people learn, work, and communicate. As students, think about what this means for your future. You may have to shift your plans for your future career. Many jobs may be run by machines. Rather than fear it, society must learn how to use it responsibly while protecting jobs, creativity, and human connection.
