If you are thinking of joining the Spanish Honors Society next year, here at Liberty, I would like to give some information on what to look forward to and just some random information you might need to know.
Spanish Honors Society is an invitation-only club offered by Liberty High School. It is a national club offered all over the U.S. and is open to students currently taking a Spanish 2 class and those who have previously taken one.
Liberty High School started offering this club last year. To be eligible for this club, firstly you must be invited to join by one of the Coordinators, Señora Jaraba or Señora Aceto. Then you must be taking a level 2 Spanish class or higher. If you choose to accept the invitation and you are a first-time member, you must pay a 30-dollar fee before the inauguration ceremony. The Spanish Honors Society has a group chat that I would recommend joining as soon as you can so you don’t miss any updates or upcoming events that they host. Being a part of this club looks good on college applications since it is an honors society.
The Spanish Honors Society holds meetings once a month during Soar. All these meetings are mandatory. During these meetings, they discuss things they would like to do to represent the Hispanic community in the school. Multiple fundraisers help the Spanish Honors Society keep going. You can only miss 2 meetings, and if you miss more than 2 you are automatically kicked out of the club. This is a very nice experience to have because, towards the end of the year, the club goes on a trip this year, they have decided to go to Spain. Being part of this club is a very good experience because not only do you get to partake in something for the school, but you also get to make new friends and collaborate with different people. Student, Marelis Alba-Santos said, “There are many people in different grades, you get to meet people that you haven’t had classes with or that you don’t get to see every day.”
Spanish Honors Society is one thing I would really recommend looking into if you would like to be a part of a club that works so hard to have their voices heard. This club is not only just for the hispanic community but for everyone. The Spanish Honors Society works so hard to make sure that the hispanic community is heard and seen. What I mean by this is that the club has a bulletin board that the members decorate depending on the season. They also had a fundraiser selling Mexican tamales. Senora Jaraba, a sponsor of the club, had said that she would like to do a quinceanera expo show.
This translates into English, “I would like to have a quinceanera performance that would be a contribution to Hispanic culture and share how we are, and make a form asking the girls if they are willing to come in with their dresses. Apart from that, parents could bring food, and then we would have a food bar full of food, and people could pay a $5 ticket to come see the quinceañeras and show off their dresses. There would be several people involved, those from cosmology, journalism, and yearbook since they would be outside doing photo shoots for the girls, something very elaborate.”
This club is one of the few clubs I would really recommend people look into joining, not only because it’s a great way for you to meet new people but also because it’s a way for people to learn about the Hispanic culture and community. The sponsors of this club are also a great resource. They are kind and they care about all their members dearly. Your opinion matters and this club makes sure that your voice is heard.
