Have you ever taken a shower and thought, “I don’t feel clean” or “why do I still stink?” It’s probably because you don’t have the right products or take 5-minute showers. Well, here are some hygiene tips to step up your shower routine.
The first thing you need is unscented soap. Unscented soap is very important for cleanliness. It’s just for cleaning yourself off before you wash your hair and use scented soap. I recommend Dove unscented bars. They’re about three dollars for three bars, and they will last a lot longer than liquid soap.
Next thing is a washcloth, not a loofa. You’re supposed to replace your loofah every 3-4 weeks, and loofahs now cost 3-4 dollars. In a year, you would spend around 40 bucks on just loofahs alone. You can use a washcloth, which is like a dollar at dollar tree or if you want foamy soap like a loofah will give you, you can buy an african sponge net which is 5 dollars from walmart or 99 cents from tik tok shop, which also doubles as an exfoliator, you can just pop them in the wash every four weeks which will save you about 40 dollars.
Now you will need the perfect shampoo and conditioner. I had straight, dry, dyed, and dead hair before I found hair care for me. If you have that kind of hair, then I recommend Biolage Colorlast shampoo and conditioner. When I used to bleach my hair every other month, it saved my hair, it made it smooth and more healthy. After I dyed it back to brown, the dye doesn’t wash out at all. If you have curly or wavy hair, then I recommend researching what hair type you have and then getting the right products for that hair type. Since I don’t have curly hair, I wouldn’t know.
After you wash and condition your hair and go in with your unscented soap, it’s time to exfoliate. I go into a body scrub and an exfoliating glove to get extra smooth. You can get an exfoliating glove for about 2-5 dollars, and after like 2 weeks, you can just put it into the washer. For a body scrub, I recommend Treehut for really good scents. They are about 9 dollars for one container. If you want something cheaper but just as good, I recommend Equate sugar scrub; it’s around 6 dollars and has a bigger container than Treehut, but there are fewer options for scents.
If you want to, you can shave. Shaving doesn’t equal cleanliness, but for me, it makes me feel cleaner. I use my body wash to shave instead of shaving cream, as it saves me more money, and I like the smell of my body wash. If you want to use a shaving cream, I recommend EOS shaving cream; it’s smooth and smells very nice. I recommend men’s razors; they work way more and cost way less than women’s razors.
You’re gonna need a good face wash. If you have a doctor-recommended face wash, then use that, but if not, I use and face wash by CeraVe, which is dermatologist-approved. They are not too expensive and clear up acne. There are different types of face wash for your skin type, so if you have oily skin, I would recommend one that won’t make you too oily, but if you have dry skin, I’d recommend one that will restore the moisture to your skin.
A good body wash is important. Your body wash should match the sents your using for body scrub, shaving cream, lotion, deodorant and perfume to make sure you smell like a certain thing and not a bunch of random things, if you have coconut products, then you will smell like coconut, but if you mixed coconut body scrub, vanilla shaving cream, strawberry body wash, pumpkin lotion and a flowery perfume you’re not gonna smell good and you’re going to smell like a bunch of weird scents. My body wash is Dove Vanilla shea butter; it’s thick and is almost like a lotion and makes your skin smooth, so if you’re looking for a good body wash like that or you have sensitive skin, dry skin, or just want a good-smelling body wash, I recommend any Dove soap. They have every smell you want in bars and liquids.
Last but not least is lotion and deodorant. Lotion is very important because it makes your skin even softer. For lotion, I usually match my scents to my body wash or perfume because you will smell the lotion for hours after your shower. I used an unscented baby lotion from the dollar store. It was a dollar and 25 cents, and it’s the best thing I have ever put on my skin; it keeps it soft, and it doesn’t smell like anything, so it makes my perfume stand out. For deodorant, I would recommend Dove, Secret, or Old Spice. After your shower and lotion, put on a little deodorant before bed, and if you shower in the morning, then put on a lot because you don’t wanna smell like sweat.
These are all the things you need to keep you smelling good and feeling good. If you don’t like these products, you like taking 5-minute showers, or you just wanna be dirty, then remember these were all just recommendations and my opinions.
