A lot of students feel like lunch is the only real break during the school day. But it’s usually so short that it barely feels like a break. With other classes getting harder and more stressful, the idea of having longer lunches is becoming something I think us students need. I think schools should definitely consider or think about having longer lunch breaks and it could help students with their health and focus.
Longer lunches would improve students’ health. Right now many of us don’t get time to finish our food especially when the lunch line is super long. Rushing to eat can be uncomfortable and sometimes people just skip lunch because they don’t have time. That can make us tired and hungry and unable to focus in class. If lunch were longer, students could actually eat at a normal pace and choose better food instead of grabbing something quick .
Another important reason for longer lunches is stress. School can feel non stop and overwhelming especially when classes are back to back with barely any time to breathe. A longer lunch would give students a real break time to sit down, talk to friends, relax and reset for the rest of their day. Right now most lunches feel like an extra task on our schedule instead of something fun. Students could sit down, talk with friends and take real moments to reset our minds after a long day of hard work and stress built up from classes. Teachers are always telling us to “Take care of our mental health”, but it’s hard to do that when we don’t even have time to finish a sandwich.
Longer lunches could actually help improve our academic performance when students feel less rushed and more energized. When we actually have time to eat and relax, we come back to class with more energy and relax. We come back to class with more energy and focus. It’s almost impossible to pay attention when you’re starving and stressed about classes and stress from rushing . Even adding just 10 to 15 extra minutes could make a big difference. Students could be more awake, more comfortable and way more prepared for the rest of the day.
Extending lunch to be longer would benefit students in more ways than people realize. It would help us stay healthier and be ready for the day.It can also reduce our stress and even improve how we learn.Lunch shouldn’t feel like a race, it should feel like a break everyone gets from school work. School is already demanding and strict enough so giving students a little extra time to eat and relax is honestly the least schools can do for us. Giving students longer lunches isn’t just about food, it’s about focus, stress relief, and a better school experience. It’s time for schools to make lunch a real break, not a race.
