Every year when new years start people make promises to themselves about what they want to change. Some want to be healthier, others want to do better in school and some just want to have better habits. At first everyone is excited and motivated but that feeling usually doesn’t last long. Sticking after a few weeks people forget about it because it can be too hard to accomplish even though sticking to a new years resolution can be challenging. It’s possible if you stay focused and put in the effort.
One of the biggest things you have to do is choose a realistic goal. It’s great to aim high but if you have a resolution to high you can probably get overwhelmed from it .Instead of saying something broad like “I want to be healthier “ instead of that it could be more like “ I’m going to work out three times a week” or “ im going to eat salad instead of pizza today “ when you choose something that actually fits your life it’s easier to stick with it.
Another good step is breaking your goal into smaller parts. Big goals look impressive to other people but it can feel impossible when you are doing it yourself and staring at the whole thing at once . By making smaller parts you can focus on one thing at a time. For example, if you want to get better grades , start with something simple like organizing your backpack or doing homework for 20 minutes a night. Each small step helps build a better boost and before you know it you’ll be closer to your bigger goal in no time.
Another way to stay motivated is by creating a plan is also super helpful. A resolution isn’t just a wish, it’s something you have to put effort into. Writing down your goal,why you want it , and how you’re going to achieve it gives you time to map it all out.If you want to save money,decide exactly how much to save a week if you’re trying to improve your mental health plan specific habits like taking breaks from social media or going outside more. A plan makes your resolution feel real instead of just an idea in your head
In addition to planning, tracking your progress is another big part of staying committed. Seeing how far you’ve come and really motivating you to keep going you can use an app ,a notebook,or even a calendar to check off each day you follow your resolution. It’s satisfying to look back and realize you are actually improving even if the changes feel slow.
Probably one of the most important things to remember is that you don’t have to be perfect. Everybody messes up sometimes. If you miss a day or slip back into an old habit it doesn’t mean you failed. What matters is getting back on track and trying again. Staying consistent is way more important than being perfect.
Lastly, remind yourself why you started. When motivation fades which it always does, going back to your reason can help you push through. Sticking to a New Year’s resolution might be tough but with realistic goals,small steps,and steady effort it’s totally possible to make lasting change.
